At The Mud House, we offer stand-alone throwing taster classes, as well as longer throwing courses designed to guide you from clay-confused to clay-confident in just 6 to 12 weeks. Our diverse range of pottery courses caters to all skill levels, from beginners to experienced ceramists.

Regardless of the course you choose, you’ll enjoy personalized instruction in a supportive environment, ensuring a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.   • We categorize our pottery skill levels into three distinct levels to cater to your individual learning needs:

    • Level 0:

      • This is our most basic level, designed for complete beginners.

      • It includes all Drop-in classes and any beginner weekend intensives or one-off courses.

    • Level 1:

      • This level is the minimum requirement to join as a member at The Mud House.

      • It includes our 6-week or 8-week foundational courses, where you'll learn essential pottery skills and techniques.

    • Level 2:

      • Ideal for members looking to further develop their skills, this level focuses on improvement.

      • It includes 8-week improver classes for both hand building and wheel throwing, perfect for those looking to refine their techniques.

    Whether you're just starting out or looking to advance your skills, The Mud House has something for everyone!


  • Our 6-week Everything Pottery Course provides a comprehensive introduction to various pottery techniques, allowing you to experiment and create unique pieces while learning essential skills along the way.

  • For those eager to specialize, our 10-week Deep Dive into Pottery Wheel Throwing course focuses on mastering your wheel throwing skills, helping you develop your artistic style and confidence.

  • Join our 8-week hand building and decoration course for an exciting journey into the world of pottery! Each session lasts for 2.5 hours and is limited to just 10 students, ensuring plenty of personalized guidance and support throughout your experience.

    Throughout the course, you'll explore a variety of techniques, including pinch pots, slab building, coil construction, and creating textures. You'll also learn about sgraffito, glazing, and using slip to enhance your pieces. Practical, hands-on activities will allow you to develop your skills in hand building pottery, all while fostering your creativity.

(Level 1) 8 Week Beginners Wheel Throwing Course Tuesday 6pm-8.30pm

Join our 8-week Wheel Throwing Course (Level 1), designed especially for beginners! This exciting program will immerse you in the art of pottery, teaching you essential skills including clay preparation, safety practices, and the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing. You’ll learn how to create cylinders and bowls, as well as trimming and refining your pieces, and finally glazing to finish your work beautifully.

The course includes:

  • Studio set-up & safety: Learn how to safely navigate the pottery studio.

  • Clay, tools, and equipment: Gain an understanding of the materials you’ll be working with.

  • Basic throwing techniques: Get comfortable creating unique forms on the wheel.

  • Glazing: Discover the fundamentals of glazing to bring your pieces to life.

  • Show and tell evening: Conclude the course by showcasing your work and enjoying refreshments with fellow students!

This course is perfect for those eager to explore the world of wheel throwing and develop their skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. It's suitable for participants aged 16 and up.

Each class is limited to 8 students, allowing for ample individual attention and guidance from the instructor. You will be able to take home your handcrafted pieces, which should be ready for collection within 3 weeks, depending on the weather.

The course fee includes all tuition, clay, tools, materials, and refreshments (including biscuits!). Please note that additional firing costs are £16 per kilo of work, which covers both bisque and glaze firing.

Refund Policy: This course must be booked and paid for in full. Due to limited space, we cannot offer full refunds for cancellations, but we do try to accommodate changes when possible. Our cancellation policy is as follows:

  • Any cancellation will incur a 10% administration fee.

  • Cancellations up to 3 weeks before the class will receive an 80% refund.

  • Cancellations 2 weeks before the class will receive a 40% refund.

  • Unfortunately, cancellations made after this period will not be refunded.

If you cannot attend, you may transfer your booking to someone else, but no refunds will be given for missed classes. Transfers between different classes are not allowed.

If the tutor is unable to run a specific session, a catch-up session will be arranged for the group, and if the course is cancelled, a full refund will be issued.

Due to the nature of this course, rescheduling certain sessions can be difficult. We appreciate your understanding as a small business, and we will do our best to accommodate any necessary arrangements.

You will learn how to throw & turn your pottery masterpieces (16yrs+only)

This is limited to 8 people within the class so lots of guidance for all students :)

This include all tuition, clay, tools, materials & refreshments inc biscuits 😉

Additional firing costs at £10 per kilo of work


Course includes:

  • Studio set-up & safety

  • Learn about clay, tools & equipment

  • Learn basic throwing & hand building techniques

  • Practical fun with hand building pottery & on the pottery wheel

  • Learn basic Glazing and firing (We will glaze your pieces for you)

  • A fun show and tell evening to look at each others work over a glass or two!

You will be able to take home your masterpieces- which should be ready for collection within 3 weeks depending on the weather!

Refund Policy

This course must be booked and paid in full.

Unfortunately, because of limited space we're unable to offer full refunds for cancellations, however we do understand that life gets in the way sometimes. If you wish to cancel you will be refunded as follow:

Any cancellation includes a 10% admin fee.

If you cancel up to to 3 weeks before the class - 80% refund.

If you cancel 2 week before the class - 40% refund.

Cancellations after this period will not be refunded.

If you can’t attend you may transfer the booking to another name. No refunds will be available if you fail to attend.

You may not transfer from one class to another.

If the tutor is unable to run a particular session I will arrange a catch up session as agreed with the rest of the group.

If for any reason the tutor is unable to run the course you will be refunded in full.

Absence during the course

Due to the nature of the course and set-up it is difficult to reschedule certain sessions. Please be aware this is a small business- If we are able to accommodate we will arrange another session.
