  • The Mud House 82 Preston Road Brighton, England, BN1 6AE United Kingdom (map)

Join our 8-week Wheel Throwing Course (Level 1), designed especially for beginners! This exciting program will immerse you in the art of pottery, teaching you essential skills including clay preparation, safety practices, and the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing. You’ll learn how to create cylinders and bowls, as well as trimming and refining your pieces, and finally glazing to finish your work beautifully.

The course includes:

  • Studio set-up & safety: Learn how to safely navigate the pottery studio.

  • Clay, tools, and equipment: Gain an understanding of the materials you’ll be working with.

  • Basic throwing techniques: Get comfortable creating unique forms on the wheel.

  • Glazing: Discover the fundamentals of glazing to bring your pieces to life.

  • Show and tell evening: Conclude the course by showcasing your work and enjoying refreshments with fellow students!

This course is perfect for those eager to explore the world of wheel throwing and develop their skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. It's suitable for participants aged 16 and up.

Each class is limited to 8 students, allowing for ample individual attention and guidance from the instructor. You will be able to take home your handcrafted pieces, which should be ready for collection within 3 weeks, depending on the weather.

The course fee includes all tuition, clay, tools, materials, and refreshments (including biscuits!). Please note that additional firing costs are £10 per kilo of work, which covers both bisque and glaze firing.

  • Any cancellation will incur a 10% administration fee.

  • Cancellations up to 3 weeks before the class will receive an 80% refund.
